It’s that time of the year again! The KZN Science Centre at the Gateway Theatre of Shopping is excited to host the  Department of Science and Technology’s upcoming National Science Week (NSW) initiative (27 July 2013 – 4 August 2013).

This annual event aims to promote and create an awareness of science and technology across the country. Using a large variety of scientific and technological exhibits, workshops, demonstrations and interactive activities, The KZN Science Centre will endeavour to once again inspire the highest number of people in the province by hosting 2490 learners in the centre, 2400 on outreach, and 1500 members of the public.

During National Science Week 2013, The KZN Science Centre will be implementing a series of fascinating, thought provoking workshops, especially designed to generate interest in science, technology, and engineering and (SET) careers among the youth. Some of these programmes include water conservation, palaeontology, astronomy, and even putting a spark in mathematics!

On 27 July 2013 The KZN Science Centre will also be opening its doors to the public free of charge, treating the 1500 visitors to a free planetarium show, whilst another 240 visitors will get free entry to The KZN Science Centre and a host of activities in the early childhood room.

Candice Potgieter, Chief Executive Officer of The KZN Science Centre, said that “we are very excited to once again be hosting National Science Week, as this event has proven to be highly successful in bringing science to life and inspiring the learners of South Africa to perform better at these subjects and ultimately pursue careers in science and technology. The KZN Science Centre will once again, aim to achieve the highest number of learners in the province for the week, and this is only made possible thanks to the extensive support of the Department of Science and Technology, SAASTA/NRF, Department of Education (KZN), and our other sponsors.”
