In this year’s effort to make science more accessible to our under resourced schools, the KZN Science Centre’s outreach team targeted one of the larger no-fee-paying high schools Inanda Comprehensive in the Inanda township. A week was spent conducting all of the recommended CAPS practical experiments with the Grade 10; 11 and 12 learners. Each learner was given the opportunity to methodically work through a practical element associated with the work being carried out in the laboratory. All the topics covered by the outreach team are examinable in the final exams for each grade therefore the exposure the learners received assists in showcasing the tangible side of science and also helps to improve their understanding of the content through practical methodology. “We are very grateful to the KZNSC for supporting myself and my learners, I am learning a lot as well” – Ms Muntu Mtungwa, Grade 10 and 11 Science educator.
